What Form Of Currency Is Used In Thailand

Thailand has had history of several types of currencies being used since its development. There are diverse ranges of currencies such as bracelets, stones, pebbles, pearls and others, which were adopted by Thailand in its early years.

It is believed that sandalwood coins were also adopted as currencies in Thailand. Gradually, Thailand started employing metallic coins as their unit of currency. Progressively, the mode of currencies kept on changing and at present, the currency of Thailand is the Thai baht (THB). The value of 1 baht equals to 100 satangs. Currently, the economy of Thailand is completely inter-dependent.

Both coins and notes are used in Thailand. All the coins and notes contain the picture of Thailand’s King, i.e. His Majesty. Coins of 25 and 50 satangs are widely used throughout the Thailand. Moreover, the commonly used notes are 20, 50, 100, 1000 baht and others.

The coins are basically made of brass and silver. On the other hand, the notes can be seen in different colors. For example, the color of baht 20 and baht 1000 is green and white respectively. As per the Thailand Baht and U.S. dollar pairing, the current value of 45 baht is equivalent to 1 USD.

Thailand has developed to a great extent and at present, ATMs are easily available in all parts of Thailand. However, it is strongly recommended not to rely on cards solely, hence, carrying cash is beneficial during emergencies. Do contact your travel agent beforehand to get Thailand coins and notes before visiting Thailand.
